About

What this is

HumanReadable-AI is a plain-English publication covering artificial intelligence — what's happening, why it matters, and what any of it actually means for regular people.

Not engineers. Not researchers. People who have jobs and lives and a vague sense that AI is becoming a big deal but no interest in wading through technical jargon to figure out why.

That's the gap this fills.

How it works

Every week we publish a mix of three things:

5-Minute Briefings are exactly what they sound like. Something happened in AI. Here's what it was, here's why you should care, here's what it means. Read it over your morning coffee and move on with your day informed.

Deep Dives are longer pieces that actually explain something. How do these AI models work? What's a neural network, really? Why does everyone keep talking about "agents?" These aren't listicles or hype pieces — they're real explanations built from the ground up, for people who are curious but not technical.

AI 101 is the foundation layer. A growing library of reference articles on the basics — the kind of stuff you've always half-wondered about but never found a clear answer to. Start here if you're new, come back whenever you need a refresher.

Who's behind it

Hi. I'm DJ.

I work in healthcare insurance — specifically in the world of self-funded employer plans, stop loss, and TPA partnerships. Not exactly a resume line that screams "AI journalist," I know.

But here's the thing: my whole career has been taking complex, technical, jargon-heavy subjects and making them understandable to people who aren't specialists. Brokers, HR managers, CFOs — smart people who need to make real decisions but don't have time to become experts in every nuance of benefits administration.

Turns out that skill works just as well for AI as it does for insurance.

I'm not an AI researcher. I don't write code for a living. I'm someone who finds this technology genuinely fascinating, has spent a lot of time learning how it works, and thinks the gap between "what's actually happening" and "what most people understand" is way too wide.

That gap is the reason this site exists.

A straight answer about AI and this site

Since this is a site about AI, I'll be upfront: I use AI tools to help research and draft content here. Every article gets my eyes, my edits, and my judgment before it publishes. The voice is mine. The perspective is mine. The fact-checking is mine.

But I'm not going to pretend I type every word from scratch when the whole point of this publication is that AI tools are genuinely useful when used thoughtfully. Seemed worth saying directly rather than hoping you wouldn't notice.
